The backstory

They killed a movie…to get a tax write-off

Coyote vs. ACME was made by Warner Bros Animation, reportedly for $70 million. James Gunn has a producer and story credit. It stars John Cena, Will Forte and Lana Condor — not to mention Wile E. Coyote, Road Runner, Bugs, Daffy and Tweety.

The movie was complete, in the can, and reportedly testing very well. But in November 2023 — after Warner Bros was acquired by Discovery — the folks in charge shelved the finished film to claim a tax write-off. This is one of the things people hate about Hollywood.

The backlash from fans was enormous. Eventually Warner Bros reversed course and let the film’s creators find another distributor. Ketchup Entertainment acquired the rights to release the film. Earlier this year, Legion M attached as a release partner and P&A investor.

On Aug 28th, Coyote vs. ACME will finally get the release it deserves.
